My father in the military would come home with a bottle of mercury on his shoulder.  My brothers and I were always allowed to play with it on the dining room table.  I recently asked my father why he was required to wear it on his uniform and if he knew how dangerous it was for us to have played with it.  He doesn't know why or at least he doesn't remember.  Can anyone  tell me or find out why?
